Date Sold 7/13/2018Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original 1954 Vintage Movie Souvenir Program Book (measures 9" x 12" [23 x 30 cm]; 27 pages) (Learn More) This is Cinerama, the 1952 Merian C. Cooper documentary travelogue made to show off Cinerama's "incredible" image depth and clarity ("The attraction that revolutionized the entertainment world"; "Cinerama Is Back to entertain a whole new generation"; "Puts YOU in the picture!"; "Plunges you into a startling new world of entertainment"), narrated by Lowell Thomas. Note that this movie had a very interesting origin! Lowell Thomas was noted for narrating important documentaries, and one of them was "With Lawrence in Arabia and Allenby in Palestine". After making that, he learned of the Cinerama process, and he immediately thought of how great the above documentary would have been if it could have been shot in Cinerama! He also knew that other legendary documentary filmmakers like Robert Flaherty (who had made "Nanook of the North") and Merian C. Cooper (who had made "Chang" and "Grass" prior to "King Kong") would likely feel the same way. So he went to Flaherty to make this film, and Flaherty enthusiastically agreed, but he died a few weeks later, so Thomas went to Merian C. Cooper, who then went on to direct this movie, which was only a "demonstration" of what Cinerama allowed filmmakers to do, that they had never done before. Note that this movie was given a limited release in 1952, and then given a wide release in 1954. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that Cinerama experts have told us that there are two versions of this program, one with white words in the bottom right of the cover that is the first printing, likely from 1952, and a second version, with red words in the bottom right of the cover, that is the second printing (and we would imagine that is from the 1954 release of the movie, which would explain how there could be two different "world premiere" programs!). If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Also note that we have pictured the front cover and an interior 2-page spread from this program. Condition: good to very good. Learn More about condition grades
