An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Style B Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22 3/4" x 29" [58 x 74 cm]) (Learn More) Sinners in the Sun, the 1932 Alexander Hall New York City romantic love triangle melodrama (based on the novel by Mildred Cram; about a fashion model who eventually finds true love with a garage mechanic after a romance with a rich cad) starring Carole Lombard, Chester Morris, Adrienne Ames, Alison Skipworth, Walter Byron, and Cary Grant (8th billed, in his second movie ever!) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned six lobby cards and some stills from this movie (and NO other movie paper of any kind, which makes this the only poster we have ever auctioned) until we received this half-sheet, which we have never auctioned before! There is an oddity to this poster. It measures 22 3/4" x 29", and it has extra parts to the blank borders (the image is normal). There are some printer marks in the borders that show that this was likely a printer's test that did not get trimmed, or perhaps it was just trimmed too large for some other reason. The poster was paperbacked exactly as it is, but if one chose, they could have it trimmed to exactly 22" x 28", and they would solely be trimming the excess that should have been trimmed back in 1932, so it would not be harming the poster (although some people might think it is a nice "extra" that it is an untrimmed proof!). That will be the decision of the new owner Also note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Note that because this poster was paperbacked onto a thicker paper backing, it CAN'T be sent rolled (someone could conceivably roll it or try to do so, but we think it would have a strong chance of lessening its condition, so we will only send it in a very large flat package that measures approximately 25" x 31", unless the buyer insists, and then they would be responsible for any damage). What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had tiny creases and scuffs along both folds, and some creases around the edges. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was well backed, but the restorer did not trim the poster (see above), and after it was backed, it acquired a really tiny bit of surface paper loss in the background to the right of Lombard's eye (anyone could touch up that area without re-backing the poster).
