An Original 1977 Vintage Linenbacked Television TV Poster (measures 31" x 50" [79 x 127 cm]) (Learn More) I, Claudius, the 1976 (released in the U.S. in 1977) Herbert Wise English/German Rome Roman Empire historical biographical melodrama television (TV) mini-series ("All Rome thought him a fool, but his genius was survival") starring Derek Jacobi (in the title role as Claudius), George Baker, Margaret Tyzack, Sian Phillips, Brian Blessed, and James Faulkner. Note that in 1937, London Film hired Josef von Sternberg to make a film of this name with Charles Laughton in the lead role, and it was abandoned before completion, although some of the movie still exists. This TV mini-series was essentially a remake of that. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Seymour Chwast Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had a 17" tear in the top center, with some tiny paper loss on the tear. It also had small tears scattered in the borders. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. Learn More about condition grades
