An Original Vintage Set of Playing Cards (measures 2 3/4" x 3 1/2" [7 x 9 cm]; contains 54 cards plus one duplicate; see below) (Learn More)

Movie Souvenir Playing Cards, the 1910s sets of playing cards ("53 most prominent stars in filmdom"). We have auctioned a 1916 version and a 1918 version only, but they likely came out for several years. Each deck featured images of top actors and actresses on every playing card, including (in the 1916 version and some are also in the 1918 version): Charlie Chaplin (naturally, as the "joker"!), Wallace Reid, Tom Mix, Dorothy Gish, William S. Hart, Ruth Roland, Mabel Normand, Mildred Harris, Pearl White, and Norma and Constance Talmadge (both on a single card!). There is an extra card that tells about the cards and how they are great to use at "movie card parties". Each card has a full-color art image on the back "of the famous painting, The Chariot Race", which shows the race scene from a stage play version of Ben-Hur (because the first movie version had not been made yet!). Each card has gold around the edges and they are described as "Gold Edged Cards".
NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.

Condition: very good. The 52 cards plus the joker and the info card are all in excellent condition! Someone had an extra six of clubs (William Duncan) and put that in the box with the others, but that extra card is unnecessary (and it is in less condition). The box has a slipcase that is missing its top and one side of the box has some stains, but the cards are in nice condition.
