Date Sold 8/29/2023Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage 7" x 9" [18 x 23 cm] Still (Learn More) Greta Garbo was a legendary romantic Swedish actress from the 1924 to 1941 (she retired at the age of 35, still extremely popular, and lived in seclusion for many decades afterwards, living by her trademark expression, "I want to be alone"). Almost all other major leading ladies of the mid 1920s had their careers diminished or ruined by the coming of sound, but not Garbo, all the more remarkable because she was not native English-speaking and she had a strong accent. Some of her movies include: Ninotchka (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Queen Christina, Grand Hotel, Anna Christie (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Romance (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), and Camille (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film). Garbo passed away in 1990 at the age of 84. AND Mauritz Stiller was, together with Victor Sjostrom, one of the two greatest early Swedish directors. He started in 1912. In 1924, he made "Gosta Berlings saga" with 18 year old Greta Garbo, and he recognized she would be a gigantic star. He went together with her to America to make "The Temptress", but he continually fought with MGM executives, and they fired him, and he was unable to find other work in Hollywood, and he returned to Sweden in 1928, and he died soon after. Important Added Info: Note that this cool still, which has been trimmed and now measures 7" x 9" [18 x 23 cm], has a snipe on the back that talks about the actors and directors from Scandinavian countries who have come to Hollywood in a very short time. Those pictured are Mauritz Stiller, Greta Garbo, Max Ree, Benjamin Christianson, Karin Molander, Karl Dane, Victor Sjostrom (credited as "Victor Seastrom"), Sven Borg, and Lars Hanson! Condition: good to very good. The still has been neatly trimmed on all four sides, and there is glue residue on the back, but it does not affect the front, except that it is lightly rippled down the left.
