Date Sold 8/26/2008Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Belgian Movie Poster (measures 14 1/4" x 19 1/4") (Learn More) The Stranger, the classic 1946 Orson Welles post-World War II (WWII) Nazi romantic crime film noir ("The most deceitful man a woman ever loved!"; "Story by Victor Trivas and Decla Dunning"; about a government agent who is sent to a small town to find a man he suspects is a former Nazi, who is living a new life and is romantically involved with a beautiful woman) starring Edward G. Robinson, Loretta Young, Orson Welles, Philip Merivale, Richard Long, and Billy House NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: very good. The poster originally had a blank top that was neatly trimmed off (this is commonly done with Belgian posters, similar to how the blank top is trimmed off of U.S. window cards). The poster had a vertical fold and four horizontal folds with some creases and fine surface paper loss on parts of some foldlines. There was paper loss in the upper right blank border and in the right of the bottom blank border. There was a faint outline of a tax stamp in the lower left and a difference of darkening in that same area where there was once a tax stamp that came off. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was well backed, but the restorer left alone the border defects, likely rightfully assuming they will not show when the poster is framed, and the restorer also left alone the tax stamp area described above!
