An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked German Movie Poster (measures approximately 23" x 33") (Learn More) Chinatown, the classic 1974 Roman Polanski (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) romantic police corruption crime film noir ("Written by Robert Towne"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Jack Nicholson (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), Faye Dunaway (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), John Hillerman, Perry Lopez, Burt Young, John Huston (the famed director in an acting role), Roman Polanski, and Bruce Glover NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this German poster is entirely in English, and the only non-U.S. writing on the poster is in extremely small copyright information at bottom left, which credits a German company. It is likely this was a poster printed in Germany for use in other countries (Cinema International Corporation, or CIC, which is credited at the bottom of the poster did tremendous distribution throughout South America, the Middle East, the Far East, and Australia and New Zealand; why CIC would print posters in Germany for use in those countries is a mystery, but maybe that is where they had the cheapest printers!). Also note that we are selling two different styles of this poster (with different central images), and it is possible that there was an entire set of these posters. Finally, note that this German poster measures approximately 23" x 33" and is linenbacked. Condition: very good. This poster was linenbacked, and one of the following is true: either the poster had minor defects, and was well backed, OR it had more significant defects, but they were extremely well restored, OR it had some very minor defects that were not completely restored, and are somewhat noticeable. You can tell which of the above is the case for this particular poster by reading our "pre-restoration" description and also by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). Note that we gave this condition grade to a very few posters that were in pretty good condition prior to linenbacking, but which were not all that well linenbacked, and which could be fairly easily re-backed with only minor additional restoration. The poster had creases and tiny tears on the foldlines. There were pinholes, creases, and a few tears around the edges of the poster.
