An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Presskit (measures 9" x 12" [23 x 30 cm]; contains 5 supplements and a promo brochure, but NO stills) (Learn More) John Carpenter's The Thing, the 1982 John Carpenter horror science fiction (sci-fi) thriller ("The Ultimate in Alien Terror."; "Man is the warmest place to hide."; set in Antarctica; "Based on the story 'Who Goes There?' by John W. Campbell Jr."; it is a re-make of the 1951 movie, "The Thing from Another World", based on the same story, and with James Arness as "The Thing") starring Kurt Russell, Wilford Brimley, T.K. Carter, David Clennon, Keith David, Richard Dysart, Charles Hallahan, Peter Maloney, Richard Masur, Donald Moffat, Joel Polis, and Thomas G. Waites. This is one of Carpenter's best movies, and in many ways it is more enjoyable and superior to the original version! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this is a real mystery! We have previously auctioned a "regular" presskit from this movie, which contained stills and supplements, and was the standard size. THIS measures 9" x 12" and has NO stills. However, it does have supplements that likely came with the regular presskit. The image on the cover of this oversized folder is the same as the image on the 9" x 12" promo brochure we have previously auctioned, and in fact, one of those promo brochures is contained within this folder. So our best guess is that this was a special presskit sent to bigger theaters or possibly reviewers, and that it originally contained stills, but that is just a guess. SO PLEASE DO NOT BID ON THIS VERY RARE ITEM UNLESS YOU CAN ACCEPT THE UNCERTAINTIES ABOUT EXACTLY WHAT IT IS AND WHAT IT WAS USED FOR. Condition: good to very good. Learn More about condition grades
