eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 1j736 IT'S A KING French 1p 1934 art of English Sydney Howard as King Albert, ultra rare! Date Sold 10/30/2018Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original 1934 (from the first release of this movie in France) Vintage Theatrical Folded French One-Panel "Grande" Movie Poster (1p; measures 47" x 63" [119 x 160 cm]) (Learn More) It's a King, the 1933 Jack Raymond English mistaken identity royalty romantic comedy (about an insurance agent on vacation who not only discovers that he is the exact duplicate of the king of that country, but that his name is the exact reverse of the king's, Albert King, and he goes on to successfully impersonate the king and save his life, while having a romance with a princess) starring Sydney Howard (in a dual role as Albert King and King Albert), Joan Maude, Cecil Humphreys, George De Warfaz, Arthur Goullet, and Franklyn Bellamy. Note that it was a pretty common plot device in older movies to not only have people meet their exact double, but also to then go on to impersonate them. I wonder if this happens much in real life! If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this French one-panel! Note that this is an extremely rare French poster from before World War II! Virtually no French posters survive from the mid 1940s or earlier. There were many paper shortages in France during World War II, resulting in the destruction of almost all posters from before World War II, and also from during the war, and the first few years afterwards! Condition: fair to good. Learn More about condition grades
