Important Added Info: Note that this movie could not have been released in Belgium in 1944, because they were still occupied by the Nazis at that time. The movie opened in France in 1946, after France was liberated, and it would seem extremely likely that it played in Belgium at that same time. Also note that this poster was printed on the back of an old map! During World War II in Belgium, there was a massive paper shortage, and so they used whatever paper they could find to print the movie posters, and in many cases they used old maps, and printed the movie posters on the reverse. They often also made the posters smaller, so they could get more posters printed. This practice continued for a couple of years after World War II. Since these posters are original, and since all such posters are printed on the back of maps or other posters, this is not considered a defect by almost all collectors.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster was printed on the back of a map, so there are a great deal of bleed-through from the map on the back throughout. Of course, this is something that was unavoidable, and existed right when the poster was printed. Other than the bleed-through, the poster was in pretty good condition prior to linenbacking, except there had been a top play dates area that was trimmed off. The poster was nicely backed, but the bleed-through is very noticeable. Some people might see this as a fascinating footnote to history, but others might be greatly distracted by it, so please do not bid on this poster unless you can accept this noticeable bleed-through (which would likely exist to varying degrees on all examples of this poster, depending on what had been on the reverse side when the poster was printed).
