Date Sold 7/8/2018Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Autographed 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Lana Turner (born Julia Jean Mildred Frances Turner) was an actress from the 1930s to the 1990s. She was born in 1921 in Idaho, and her father was murdered when she was a young girl, and her mother moved to California. In 1937, she was discovered at a soda fountain (not Schwab's, but one close by), and she had a small role in 1937's "They Won't Forget", and she became very popular very quickly. She remained a top leading actress for over 20 years, though her turbulent personal life definitely affected her career (including the murder of her violent gangster lover, Johnny Stompanato, by her own 14 year old daughter Cheryl Crane, and also her eight husbands, the first of which was bandleader Artie Shaw, who himself was married eight times, including to Ava Gardner!). Some of her movies include: The Postman Always Rings Twice, Imitation of Life, The Bad and the Beautiful, Peyton Place (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. She passed away in 1995 at the age of 74. Important Added Info: Note that this still has been personally autographed (signed) by Lana Turner! What an amazing still this is! It is a glamour portrait by Elmer Fryer for Warner Bros., and it is stamped that on the back, and it is also stamped "MERVYN LEROY PRODUCTIONS, WARNER BROS. PICTURES", which means it is from her very first movie, "They Won't Forget" from 1937 (and she certainly looks unbelievably young in the image, and she was just 16!). Our consignor purchased this signed item from the estate of a major autograph collector, and while he does not have a certificate of authenticity, both he and we are certain the autograph is authentic. As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes. Condition: good. The still was folded across the middle and there are creases in that area, and some creases around the edges, with a few small tears, which were caused because the still was glued to an album or mat, and when it was removed, paper and glue residue were left on the back, and three areas of surface paper were lost from the back of the still (see our images). In spite of these defects, this wonderful still can still be displayed and enjoyed, or certainly, one could choose to have slight restoration performed. Learn More about condition grades
