A Set of 8 2021 "Faux" Lobby Cards (measure 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]; see below) (Learn More) Mickey Spillane's Kiss Me Deadly, the 1955 Robert Aldrich romantic crime film noir melodrama ("Blood-red kisses! White-hot thrills!"; "Mickey Spillane's Latest H-Bomb!"; "'I, The Jury' ' The Long Wait' and now Mickey Spillane strips down to naked fury"; "'I don't care what you do to me, Mike - Just do it fast!'") starring Ralph Meeker (as Mike Hammer), Albert Dekker, Paul Stewart, Juano Hernandez, Leigh Snowden, Cloris Leachman (in her first credited movie role!), Gaby Rodgers, Marian Carr, Maxine Cooper (as Velda), Jack Elam, and Jack Lambert. Note that it is thought that this movie was a major inspiration for the French New Wave movies of the 1960s. Also note that in the late 1990s, United Artists discovered the original filmed ending (director Aldrich had been forced to change it by the studio)! Finally, note that Mickey Spillane was a department store salesman in 1940 when he discovered he could sell stories for comic books, and he quickly wrote for all the major companies. After Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the Air Force and became a fighter pilot. After the war, he wrote "I, the Jury" in 19 days, and it was published in 1947, and it sold 6.5 million copies in the U.S. alone. Its hero, Mike Hammer, a hard-boiled private eye, would appear in many more novels. Spillane would write for the movies, and he even played Mike Hammer in "The Girl Hunters" in 1963! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this is one of 68 "faux" lobby card sets we were consigned, which we are auctioning in 68 separate auctions! They were created in 2021 by a long time collector who (like so many of us) chose to stay home this year a lot due to Covid, and he made these to help pass the time! He was inspired by the "Fantasy #9 lobby cards created several decades ago, each of which is from a classic horror/sci-fi movie, showing a great scene that wasn't in the original set! Similarly, our consignor created these 68 sets, using top images from each film! He did not make these through a computer program, but instead pasted together actual prints to create mock-ups. On most of these he make 8 card sets, but on a number of them he created sets with 9, 10, 11, 12 or 13! He then printed just THREE of each set, and he won't be reprinting them. He numbered the first card in each set, and what we are offering here is the "1 of 3" of this set, which means there are only two other sets, and there will never be more. Our consignor will permanently keep one of the three of each, but MAY give us the remaining set at a later time to auction. But the winner of this auction will have one of just three of these numbered sets that were created! Condition: fine. These faux lobby cards are in excellent condition!
