What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: poor to fair. The poster had paper loss at the top and bottom crossfolds, with other areas of paper loss scattered in the vertical fold. It had a lesser amount of wear on the horizontal folds, with some tears and pinholes in the borders. Overall, the poster was in poor to fair condition prior to linenbacking. Some restorer mounted the poster and put paper fill in the missing areas, but then did no further restoration. They cut it from the stretcher, leaving wide linen all around, so it has an extra wide border of excess linen (see our image).
