Date Sold 11/11/2008Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Style A One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) Pioneer Scout, the 1928 Lloyd Ingraham & Alfred L. Werker silent cowboy western ("Story by Frank M. Clifton"; about a frontier scout who falls in love with a woman traveling in the desert; they are accosted by bandits whose leader attempts to kidnap her, but the scout's horse diverts the bandit's attention and he is able to rescue her!) starring Fred Thomson, Nora Lane, William Courtright, Tom Wilson (a large white man who specialized in playing black roles in the early silent days when studios were reluctant to hire African Americans; he would put burnt cork on his face and skin!; he appeared in The Kid, but not in a black role), and Charles Murray. Note that star Fred Thomson was a major silent cowboy star (along with Tom Mix), but he is forgotten today, because he tragically died of tetanus just when sound movies started. Surely there should be a film biography of his life (perhaps Johnny Depp could play the lead role!). Also note that this is a "lost" film, which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: fair to good. There is small paper loss at the middle crossfold and tiny tears in the top and bottom of the vertical foldline. There are creases, tears, pinholes, and areas of paper loss around the edges of the poster, and there was once many small pieces of tape in the blank borders, and the tape is long gone, but it has all stained the front. There was tape on the back of most of the left half of the top foldline and some small pieces of tape on the back of scattered areas in the bottom quarter of the poster, and in a couple of other areas (covering small tears or pinholes) and that tape has bled through to the front. While this poster obviously has some very significant defects as noted above, it is also true that a talented restorer can linenback this poster and touch up those defects, and after proper restoration, the poster will look great! One might consider waiting for a better example of this poster, but I have never seen it before, and I don't know that any other examples of this poster exist! Learn More about condition grades
