An Original Vintage Linenbacked English Three-Sheet (called a 6sh in England) Stage Play Poster (3sh; measures 39 3/4" x 87 3/4" [101 x 223 cm]) (Learn More) Aladdin, the circa 1930s English stage play production. The six-sheet, British quad, and double-crown posters each feature different really cool artwork of a female Aladdin holding the magic lamp in a cave full of treasure, and the three-sheet has artwork of a female Aladdin rubbing the magic lamp with the genie coming out of it! A collector from England tells us he believes that this poster (and the other English stage play posters from other classic fairy tales) were used for local Christmas pantomimes (that were very professional productions) that were held all over England for many years. Most of the posters were produced by Taylors of Wombwell from 1929 to the late 1930s (but it seems likely that the posters we are auctioning date from the late 1930s). It was quite common in those pantomimes for women to play boys' roles, and for men to play the roles of unlikeable women (like witches and mean old ladies!). Important Added Info: Note that we have previously auctioned two different styles of three-sheet for this English stage production (which may or may not have been from the same production or year as this poster), but we have NEVER auctioned THIS style, which has a far superior image! Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster was in excellent condition prior to linenbacking. The person who backed it did not glue the sections 100% correctly, and the fold that runs through the upper third of the image is slightly "lifting". Any restorer could easily re-glue that area, and then the poster could grade "very good to fine". Learn More about condition grades
