An Undated (likely from the 1940s - see below) Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Folded Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) Brother Rat, the 1938 William Keighley Virginia Military Institute military academy romantic comedy ("From the play by John Monks, Jr. & Fred F. Finklehoffe") starring Priscilla Lane, Wayne Morris, Johnnie Davis, Jane Wyman, Eddie Albert, and Ronald Reagan. Note that two years after this movie was made, co-stars Ronald Reagan and Jane Wyman married, and remained married for eight years! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is an odd poster! We have seen first release items from this movie and Ronald Reagan is sixth billed, and we have seen 1940s re-release items where he is top billed, but here he is third billed! We would assume that means this is from yet another release that came out between the original and 1940s re-release (and we have seen a similar half-sheet poster that resembles this one). If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Also note that this was printed by Associated Displays Corporation which was a company based in New York City. Before it was discovered by noted poster dealer/historian Walter Reuben, collectors did not know the name of this company (and thought it to be located in the Midwest), and it is often referred to as the "other company" (and we will continue to refer to it that way, since collectors know it that way). From 1936 to roughly 1941, this company printed its own one-sheets and lobby card sets (and a very few inserts, half-sheets, three-sheets, 40x60s and stills) for three major studio movies (Warner Brothers, Paramount and United Artists, but no other studios). The items almost always feature a tiny legal disclaimer and cast credits only. The posters and lobby cards are from the original release of the movie, and almost always have completely different artwork from the regular studio release. They did this by combining elements from different film scenes onto one poster or card. Sometimes, "other company" posters have images that are the equal of those from the regular studio release posters. Note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: good to very good. The poster has pinholes around the edges and along some portions of the folds. It has some creases and scuff marks scattered in various areas (see our image). Learn More about condition grades
