An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More)

Woman of Paris: A Drama of Fate, the 1923 Charlie Chaplin (Charles Chaplin) silent France romantic love triangle melodrama ("A drama of fate"; "Written and Directed by Charles Chaplin"; about a woman who has a true love, but fate separates them and she becomes the mistress of a rich man, but then, she meets her love again, with unhappy results) starring Edna Purviance, Adolphe Menjou, Carl Miller, Lydia Knott, and Betty Morrissey. Note that this was one of only two movies that Charlie Chaplin directed and did not star in (and the other was made 44 years later, "A Countess From Hong Kong"). This movie did not do well at the box office, in spite of many people admiring it a lot, and many people have wondered if a big part of its failure was because Chaplin's name was prominent in the advertising, so maybe people were disappointed in not seeing him, and even more disappointed in it not being a comedy. It might have been successful if his name had not been attached at all! In any event, its failure likely prevented him from making other movies, which is a real shame (the same situation occurred many years later when Charles Laughton directed "The Night of the Hunter").

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned three stills and a glass slide from this movie (and NO other movie paper of any kind) until we received this half-sheet, which we have never auctioned before!

Note that because the poster has condition issues, we don't want to roll the poster prior to mailing, because we believe that rolling the poster would likely lessen its condition even more. If you specifically request it, we will roll this poster, but you will not be able to return it. Otherwise, it will be sent in a large flat package that measures approximately 24" x 30" (but it can be combined with other posters the same size, including ones that could be rolled). Please bear the expense of a large package in mind before bidding on this poster.

Condition: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It has a 2" tear in the middle right of the bottom border. It has some faint smudges scattered throughout, which are much more noticeable in the blank borders. There is tiny paper loss and surface paper loss in the corners.
