An Original Vintage Unfolded German Political Poster (measures 24" x 34" [61 x 86 cm]) (Learn More) Adolf Hitler was the infamous German politician who led the Nazi Party and was Chancellor of Germany from 1933 until his suicide in 1945. Born in Austria, Hitler served in the German Army during World War I (WWI), after studying fine art in Vienna, and later joined the German Workers' Party (before it was re-named the NSDAP). He was later arrested for high treason and was sentenced to five years' imprisonment, during which he worked on Mein Kampf. Hitler went on to rebuild the NSDAP, later getting appointed as Chancellor after losing to Paul von Hindenburg in the 1932 presidential election. In a series of political moves, Hitler became dictator by 1933, and immediately enacted policies that gave him dictatorial powers and increased Germany's military might. While Hitler encouraged the removal of Jewish citizens from Germany in letters as early as 1919, plans to eradicate the population of Jewish citizens from Germany did not come to fruition until 1938 (though the first concentration camps were erected in 1933). Hitler went on to build the Axis powers with Italy and Japan, declaring war against the United States of America in 1941 (four days after Pearl Harbor). However, due to over-confidence of his own military expertise, Hitler interfered with military plans, including the destruction of the 6th Army in Stalingrad after Hitler refused to allow the unit to withdraw. More blunders resulted in Germany getting invaded by the Russian Red Army, culminating in the invasion of Berlin by April 1945 and Hitler shooting himself in the head shortly after. Adolf Hitler is no doubt considered one of history's most evil men! Artist: Werner Heudtlass & Maria von Axster Important Added Info: Note that this outrageous poster was created for the sham Reichstag election held on March 29, 1936. The German people were asked through this referendum to approve Germany seizing the Rhineland in western Germany (which had already happened). It was a sham, because the only candidates were Nazi candidates, so it made no difference who the people voted for, and not surprisingly, 98.9% of the population voted for the Nazis. This poster translates to "The Future of our Children through Adolf Hitler", telling the German population that Hitler and his government believed in motherhood and a "racially pure" Germany, and the poster shows Werner Von Axster-Heudtlass art of a blonde mother with three happy "racially pure" children. It is estimated that 1.5 million children, nearly all Jewish, perished during the Holocaust, either directly or as a direct consequence of Nazi actions and 76,000 children died in bombing raids in Germany alone. Finally, note that there is not much information on the artists, except that they were married, and later in life, Werner "kept a monkey, parrot and cockatoo in his studio and would also drive around Berlin with them in his car". Condition: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It has irregular creases in the top right corner going through the words there but not the image. They appear to have been caused by a printing defect, as if the paper kind of got caught in the press. There is a 1" tear in the right border at the bottom of the longest of the creases. There are other tears in the right border. Other than the above, the poster is in pretty nice condition. It certainly could be displayed as it is, or restoration could be performed.
