An Vintage Original Signed Framed Oil Painting (measures 17 1/2" x 23 1/2" [44 x 60 cm]; frame measures 26 1/2" x 32 1/2") (Learn More) Jeanette MacDonald was an actress/singer from the 1920s to the 1940s. She was born in 1903, and she works in choruses on Broadway in the 1920s. In 1929, Ernst Lubitsch picked her to play opposite Maurice Chevalier in "The Love Parade" for Paramount, and she also made the classic "Love Me Tonight", opposite Maurice Chevalier and directed by Rouben Mamoulian. In 1931, she left Paramount and signed with MGM, and in 1935, she starred in "Naughty Marietta" with Nelson Eddy, who whom she appeared in several other opera-like musicals of the 1930s. She had a big hit with "San Francisco", opposite Clark Gable, in 1936. In 1938, she quit the movies to perform in shows and on stage. From 1937 to her passing, she was married to actor Gene Raymond. She returned in the late 1940s to make two more movies, but she suffered from a bad heart, and passed away in 1965 at the age of 61. Artist: Anthony de Frange Important Added Info: Note that this painting was created by artist Anthony de Frange, who signed it in the lower left. It is on a stretcher and is very nicely framed in a very ornate antique looking frame! Who is Anthony de Frange? He was a prominent member of San Francisco's gay community, who in 1963 opened an art gallery on Geary Street. He took commissions to paint portraits of anyone who hired him, including many successful members of San Francisco's gay community. He also painted portraits of famous Hollywood stars, and he was commissioned by Mae West to paint her portrait, and he charged her $2,500. We don't know when he painted this portrait of Jeanette MacDonald but it was likely in the 1960s or 1970s. Mr. de Frange passed away in 1983. Note that this framed painting will need to be sent in a very large package that measures approximately 20" x26" x 3", so bear this expense in mind before bidding. Condition: very good to fine.
