eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 8z1289 POLLY OF THE CIRCUS LC 1932 romantic close up of Clark Gable & worried Marion Davies, rare! Date Sold 6/10/2021Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Polly of the Circus, the 1932 Alfred Santell romantic circus-girl-loves-minister melodrama (about a beautiful female circus aerialist who falls in love with a dashing minister, by chance, and they marry, but his congregation can't take having a circus girl for their minister's wife, so she leaves, but they end up happy) starring Marion Davies (in the title role as Polly), Clark Gable, C. Aubrey Smith, Raymond Hatton, David Landau, and Ray Milland (uncredited as "Church Usher"). Note that one would think that a man with the handsome features, distinctive voice, and great acting ability of Ray Milland would have been an overnight success, but he was very far from it! He started in minor mostly uncredited roles in 1928, and four years later he was still doing the same, including in this movie, as one of the church ushers! It would not be for five more years before he started getting better roles, and then he finally got "noticed" in 1939, and then, of course, he was a major star of the 1940s! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper items from this movie are incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned a one-sheet (31 years ago for $1,250), an insert (30 years ago for $825), different scene card (19 years ago), and some stills from this movie (and NO other movie paper) until we received this lobby card! We are also auctioning a different scene card in a separate auction. Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: fair. There are many tack holes, smudges, and stains around the edges, with some thin strips of paint in parts of the edges of the borders (see our image). There are some faint brown stains scattered throughout the image, including in much of Davies' face and neck,a nd some in Gable's face. We don't know to what extent the stains can be removed chemically, and how much will need to be touched up with paint, so please bear this in mind before bidding on this card, and look closely at our super-sized image.
