Date Sold 11/5/2017Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical French Movie Still (measures 8 3/4" x 11" [22 x 28 cm]) (Learn More) La Belle et la Bete (released in the U.S. in 1947 as "The Beauty and the Beast"), the classic 1946 Jean Cocteau French romantic fantasy adventure (based on the classic fairy tale by Madame Leprince de Beaumont; about a handsome prince who has a spell put on him that turns him into a beast, and he can't change back unless a beautiful woman loves him as he is!) starring Jean Marais (in a dual role as both la Bete and the Prince), Josette Day (in the title role as Belle), Mila Parely, Nane Germon, Michael Auclair, and Marcel Andre. Note that this movie had wonderful special effects (both by 1946 standards, and even by present day standards) and that it is one of the best loved fantasy movies of all time. In 1991, Walt Disney turned this into an animated feature length musical, and it has since been turned into a Broadway show and a live action movie, but this version still remains the best of all! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this is a "country of origin" still for this French movie! Prior to this auction, we had never auctioned even one French still from this movie, and now we have been consigned three of them. Two of them have printed information at the bottom in one format, and the third has the information printed in a different format. We don't know if that means that there is a difference between them. Also note that this French still measures 8 3/4" x 11" [22 x 28 cm].
UPDATED 11/03/2017: Note that we originally listed three La Belle et la Bete French stills as French lobby cards. We discovered they were stills after a collector showed us an image of the actual French lobby cards. It has been suggested that the still with a different format of the information at the bottom could be from an early re-release, but there is no way to know, and the information at the bottom of all three is the same except for formatting differences. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Condition: very good. There is a tiny piece of tape in the bottom right blank corner. There are a few creases and scuffs around the edges and a few scattered in the image. Learn More about condition grades
