An Original Vintage Theatrical Kraftbacked Folded German Movie Poster (measures 37" x 55" [94 x 140 cm]) (Learn More) Die Frau im Feuer (released in the U.S. as "Spies at Work"), the 1933 Gergard Lamprecht German World War I (WWI) spy espionage military romantic melodrama (based on the stories by Georg C. Klaren & Max W. Kimmich; about an Austrian soldier accused of being a spy who volunteers to parachute into Italy to clear his name; he finds and falls in love with an Austrian woman who turns out to be a real spy and she eventually gives her life to save him!) starring Karl Ludwig Diehl, Brigitte Helm, Eduard von Winterstein, Gunther Hadank, Ernst Dumcke, and Theodor Loos. Note that this movie was remade just nine months later in the U.K. as "Spy 77" starring Greta Nissen and Karl Ludwig. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Josef Fenneker Important Added Info: Note that movie paper from this film is incredibly rare. We have never auctioned even a single movie paper item from this movie (only one Austrian program) until we were consigned this wonderful poster (which is a "country of origin" poster for this German movie)! There are very few German movie posters from during World War II in existence (because of the massive paper shortages in Germany during World War II), and most of those few are in museums. It is likely that German posters from during the Nazi era are even more rare than those from before that era, because most of those that survived the war would have been destroyed right after the war! Note that this poster was printed for use in non-German countries, and the names of the stars were printed near the bottom, but a horizontal area was left blank below that, where each individual country could put the title of the movie in their language. Such posters are called "export posters". Also note that this poster has been kraftbacked, which means it was backed onto a brown paper soon after it was printed (this process is called "kraft-backing", and posters with it are called "kraft-backed"). One could have it professionally removed from the kraft paper and linenbacked, and it would look great! Condition: good. The poster has been kraftbacked (see above). It has a few areas of light glue staining that are not very noticeable or distracting. It has creases and some faint smudges along the foldlines and some creases and tiny pinholes around the edges. There is small paper loss in the lower blank border and a few tiny areas of paper loss in portions of the other blank borders. It has tiny creases, tears, and bits of paper loss along portions of the vertical foldlines in the bottom area of the poster and there are area of small separation in portions of the crossfolds. One could choose to have it removed from the kraftbacking and have it linenbacked and have some proper restoration performed, after which the very rare poster would display well, but please see our super-sized image and bear in mind its defects and the cost of restoration before bidding.
