Note that there is an unusual element to this movie, which is that Elia Kazan had Warner Bros. buy the rights to this classic novel, and then he essentially junked around 90% of it, focusing on a small section of the book. However, Steinbeck had no hard feelings about this, especially because Kazan persuaded him to take a percentage of the profits of the movie as partial payment, and that proved very lucrative to Steinbeck, and the two became very good friends and neighbors! This means the poster was backed onto a light paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (it means that the poster must be handled carefully, as the backing does not give it much added strength, but it is similar to having an unrestored poster, and yet it has been properly preserved). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards. Note that because this poster was paperbacked onto a thin paper backing, it can be sent rolled in a tube. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had tape on the back of parts of the folds with some separation and discoloration on parts of the folds. It had pinholes in the corners and a few near the center of the poster. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to paperbacking. Someone backed the poster on to a thin paper backing, without removing the tape from the back of the borders, and without performing restoration. It can be displayed as it is, or one could have restoration performed, either with or without removing it from the thin paper backing. Learn More about condition grades
