Date Sold 12/16/2018Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Movie Souvenir Program Book (measures 9" x 12" [23 x 30 cm]; 18 pages). Also included is a program that measures 6" x 9" (4 pages) (Learn More) The Thief of Bagdad, the classic 1924 Raoul Walsh silent Arabian Nights romantic action adventure fantasy thriller ("'He will steal your heart away!'"; from the story by Achmed Abdullah; about a thief in ancient Arabia, who poses as a Prince to win the hand of a Princess, but when he does, he confesses to her, and he is flogged and thrown out; he enters a contest to win her hand, but he must go on an extremely dangerous journey to win it!) starring Douglas Fairbanks Sr. (in the title role as The Thief of Bagdad), Snitz Edwards, Charles Belcher, Julanne Johnston (as The Princess), Sojin, Anna May Wong, and Noble Johnson (as The Indian Prince). Note that there is a 1940 movie of the same name which borrows elements of the plot of this movie, but is really not a remake (although both movies are really wonderful and are both "classics"!). Finally, note that Mitchell Leisen (well regarded director of 1930s and 1940s romantic comedies) did the wonderful costumes for this movie! He had started as a costume designer in 1921, and in 1922, he did the costumes for Fairbanks' Robin Hood, and after doing the costumes for this movie, he also became an art director, which led to his first directing assignment in 1933! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that the final page of this program has an image of the 24-sheet for this movie, which has the wonderful Anton grot art of Fairbanks on the winged horse (see our image of that page). Note that this major film production had multiple versions of programs for it. The movie had its premiere at the Grauman's Chinese Theatre, and there was a "world premiere" program created just for that. We have also seen a program with a headshot image of Douglas Fairbanks on the cover, plus two programs with color covers, one showing Fairbanks on the balcony, and the other showing Fairbanks on the winged horse. The program offered here is of course the "winged horse" one and it is more rare than the other style. Included with this program book is a 4-page 6" x 9" program from the Fulton Opera House, where the person who obtained this program book saw this movie. Also note that we have pictured the front cover and an interior 2-page spread from this program. You can use these images to determine the exact condition of it from our super-sized image, but realize that there are some other pages you are not seeing. Condition: very good. There are stains in the blank white border areas of the back cover, slightly extending into the edges of the image. Otherwise, the program book is in pretty nice condition.
