An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) The Sting, the classic 1974 George Roy Hill (winner of the Best Director Academy Award for this film) poker horse racing gambling con men crime comedy ("...all it takes is a little Confidence."; "Written by David S. Ward"; winner of the Best Picture Academy Award; about a group of con men who swindle a criminal out of a huge amount of money) starring Paul Newman, Robert Redford (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), Robert Shaw, Ray Walston, Charles Durning, Harold Gould, Sally Kirkland, and Robert Earl Jones NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has completely different art from the commonly seen poster (the one with Richard Amsel artwork). Yet it has a ratings box, indicating it was intended for U.S. release. We have previously auctioned only six examples of this poster, and in that time, we have auctioned a very large number of the "regular" one-sheets. We originally thought that it may have been some sort of a special poster that was printed in very limited quantities, but then not distributed to theaters (and surviving examples were obtained from employees of the studio or from people connected with the movie). However, we were contacted by a theater employee who acquired one of these posters from the theater where he was working, so it DID make it to at least a few theaters. The current example we are auctioning may shed some extra light on this mystery. Along with the poster is a 12-page 8 1/2" x 11" supplement dated September 13, 1973 that gives a synopsis of the movie, and the art from this one-sheet is printed in the upper left of the first two pages! So maybe they started to distribute the movie in late 1973 with this poster (the movie opened at Christmas, so it could qualify for the Academy Awards) and then had a change of heart right when it was first released in late 1973 and withdrew this poster, which would account for its great rarity! Note that because the poster can be rolled and the supplement can't, we will have to send the items in a tube and a small flat package to the winning bidder. Condition: very good. The poster was never folded. There are a few minor creases scattered in the poster. Learn More about condition grades
