An Original Vintage Unfolded Magic Show Poster (measures 26 1/2" x 40 1/2" [67 x 103 cm]) (Learn More) George The Supreme Master of Magic, the 1920s stage spectacular live magic show ("Triumphant American Tour"; "18 People"; "Car Load of Scenic Effects"). Grover George was an American magician who was born in 1887 and put himself through college by performing magic. He performed in the U.S. in the early 1920s, and bought the rights to another magician's act called "The Hong Kong Mysteries", and he toured America, but ran into difficulties when rival magician Howard Thurston told theaters that booked Thurston would never see him again if they also booked George! This torpedoed George's career in the U.S., and in 1924, he went to South America, where he had great success. In 1929, he returned to the U.S., but again did not have much success, and he returned to South America, eventually retiring in Brazil. During one of his American tours in the 1920s, he anticipated a "triumphant American tour", and like most magicians of the day, he printed a large number of full-color stone litho posters (ranging from one-sheets to billboard posters), which he intended to use wherever he was performing. But when his tour folded, he was left with unused posters of all sizes, and we have auctioned several of those posters in different sizes, all with wonderful full-color stone litho images! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we auctioned this very same poster in our Halloween auction that closed on November 7th. The buyer did not pay for the poster, and therefore we are re-auctioning it here. We collect from well over 99% of our winning bidders, but in this one case we were unable to. Unlike many auctions, we don't offer such posters to underbidders, because there is no telling what would have happened had the "bad" bidder never bid, so we take the much more fair approach of re-auctioning the poster at a later time, and this is that later time! Condition: very good. The poster was never folded. It has some tiny tears and tiny bits of paper loss in the left and right blank borders, but is otherwise in very nice condition, and it has really bright colors. After a simple linenbacking, it will display incredibly on the new owner's wall! Learn More about condition grades
