An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)

The Lion's Roar, the 1928 Mack Sennett romantic comedy short ("An All-Talking Comedy from Educational Film Exchanges") starring Johnny Burke, Daphne Pollard, Billy Bevan (one of the better Charlie Chaplin imitators of the time), Vernon Dent, and Numa the Lion, and featuring cool artwork of a lion and a bulldog. The movie opens with Numa the Lion roaring over the titles, and one would have to think that this was an homage or parody of MGM's Leo the Lion, and one wonders if there was any talk of a lawsuit! Note that this was the very first talking movie released by Mack Sennett Studios! Note that although Mack Sennett was producer of well over 1,000 movies, he had pretty much quit directing them in 1917 (he only directed a total of five between 1918 and 1927). But he began directing again with this movie, likely because he was concerned about how well the sound would be handled, since this was his first sound movie!

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned three examples of this one-sheet, and we think it is highly likely that all three of those examples have been the exact same poster, and it has been reconsigned to us, so this is still likely the only example we have ever auctioned!

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good to fine. The poster was folded in half an extra time. It had tiny paper loss at just a few crossfolds and 3" of separation and tiny paper loss at the top of the vertical foldline. It had some tiny pinholes in the corners. Overall, the poster was in very good to fine condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
