An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36") (Learn More) Victor Herbert's Naughty Marietta, the 1935 Frances Goodrich musical romantic operetta ("Victor Herbert's Immortal Stage Hit"; "Victor Herbert's Thrilling Stage Success"; "1935's Greatest Musical Love Story!"; "The greatest of all musical romances"; "Book and Lyrics by Rida Johnson Young"; "Music by Victor Herbert"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Jeanette MacDonald (in the title role as Marietta), Nelson Eddy, Frank Morgan, Elsa Lanchester, Douglass Dumbrille, Joseph Cawthorne, and Cecilia Parker NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: fair. This poster has been linenbacked, but it was not very well done, likely both because the restorer did not do a good job at all, and because the years since it has been linenbacked have not been kind to the poster. Overall, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to linenbacking. Generally, it had all of its blank borders trimmed off, and considerable staining scattered in the poster (some restorer put a LOT of paint on the poster). The poster was not well backed at all, because you can still see some or all of the defects generally described above (in some cases, as should be immediately evident in our image, the linenbacker did no restoration to some of the defects), and if there was restoration of the above defects, it was not done very well. Certainly, a talented restorer could perform additional restoration (either with or without re-backing the poster), but it might be fairly expensive to have this done, so bear that in mind before you place a bid. Note that the restorer who mounted the poster did not leave any excess linen around the edges of the poster. Learn More about condition grades
