An Original 1941 (from the first release of this movie in Italy) Vintage Theatrical Folded Italian Three-Panel Movie Poster (3p; measures 39 1/4" x 80 3/4" [100 x 205 cm]) (Learn More) Der Fuchs von Glenarvon (released in English-speaking countries as "The Fox of Glenarvon"), the 1940 Max W. Kimmich German World War I (WWI) Ireland political romantic lawyer legal melodrama (about an English judge living in Ireland who is married to an Irish patriot, and he has flexible morals, making decisions that help him financially!) starring Olga Tschechowa, Karl Ludwig Diehl, Ferdinand Marian, Elisabeth Flickenschildt, and Traudl Stark. The only German poster we have ever seen from this movie has a Nazi printed area that shows it was approved on March 12, 1939, but it apparently did not first play in German until a year later! In 2023 we were consigned an Italian three-panel poster from this movie, making it only the second poster we have ever auctioned, one from German, and one from Italy. Note also that this is a "forbidden" movie. This refers to around 60 movies that were made in Germany between 1933 and 1945, during the time the Nazis were in power in Germany. These movies are considered to be propaganda movies, which glorify the Nazi regime and their ideals. Immediately after World War II, a list of over 100 movies that were made between 1933 and 1945 was created, and those movies were not allowed to be shown at any time in Germany or Austria. Over the next decade, around 60 of those movies (including this one) were taken off the list so that they are allowed to be shown (but rarely are), and those movies are known as "forbidden movies", because even though they can now be shown, they could not be shown at all in the years right after World War II. The remaining 40 or so movies are known as "conditional" movies, because they are still not allowed to be shown in Germany or Austria, even in the present day, with the sole exception being when they are shown in an educational context, like at a university, and a speaker talks before and after the movie. All of the "forbidden" movies and "conditional" movies glorify Nazism in some respect, or they were created by directors or featured actors who were prominently associated with the Nazi party. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare poster. We have never auctioned one in all our years of auctioning (it is the one referenced in the description above)! Also note that this is an extremely rare Italian poster from during World War II! Virtually no Italian posters survive from before, during, or right after World War II (mostly only some heavy stock lobby cards, and even those are rare). Apparently there were many paper shortages in Italy during World War II, resulting in the destruction of almost all posters from before World War II, and also from during the war, and the first few years afterwards! Note also that this Italian three-panel was printed in 3 sections designed to overlap. Condition: good. There are tears and small areas of paper loss in the top blank border. There are some small tears and tiny paper loss on the folds. There are some light brown stains scattered through parts of the poster. Learn More about condition grades
