An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Alfred Hitchcock's To Catch a Thief, the 1955 Alfred Hitchcock romantic crime mystery thriller ("It's a web of romance and suspense that spins you from delight to danger - then spirals to an explosive climax on the fabulous Riviera!"; "Based on the novel by David Dodge"; "Screenplay by John Michael Hayes"; about a retired jewel thief living on the Riviera, and there is a string of daring jewel robberies, so naturally, he is the lead suspect, and he decides to find the true thief himself, and he is aided by a beautiful rich young woman and her mother!) starring Cary Grant, Grace Kelly, Jessie Royce Landis, John Williams, Charles Vanel, Brigitte Auber, Rene Blancard, Georgette Anys, and Jean Martinelli. Note that Cary Grant had announced his retirement from movies in 1953, but he was lured out of retirement by Hitchcock to make this one. Also note that Jessie Royce Landis, who had played Grant's mother in "North by Northwest", this time played his potential mother-in-law, and yet, she was only eight years older than Grant, who had aged very well! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had small paper loss at the bottom two crossfolds and tiny paper loss at the top crossfold. It had tiny bits of paper loss and tiny tears in the left of the middle horizontal fold and in the bottom half of the vertical fold, with a lesser amount of wear on the other folds. It had a scratch and scuffs in the middle right, just above the end of the title, and some scratches and scuffs in the bottom center. It had an irregular tear and small paper loss in the yellow area above Grant's hand at bottom center. It had small tape stains in the top and bottom blank borders. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was backed with very little restoration (or, to be fair, some of the defects might have been added after the poster was backed). While it can be displayed as it is, I personally would give it to a restorer to touch up the above defects, which likely can be done without re-backing the poster. Please look at our super-sized image and read that above before bidding on this poster (and realize that it has very few defects in the top half, especially in the image of Grace Kelly, which is a big plus!).
