Date Sold 9/15/2019Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theme Park Poster (measures 36" x 54" [91 x 137 cm]) (Learn More) The Skyway was a gondola lift attraction at "Tomorrowland" in Disneyland, the Magic Kingdom, and Tokyo Disneyland. Since all versions of this attraction took riders back and forth between Fantasyland and Tomorrowland, the route from Tomorrowland was called Skyway to Fantasyland, and the route from Fantasyland was called Skyway to Tomorrowland. The Skyway at Disneyland ("See Disneyland from the air!") opened on June 23rd, 1956. In 1959, a major renovation added several features to the park including the Matterhorn, which was designed to be built in the path of the Skyway, which traveled through the "mountain". The Skyway at Disneyland closed on November 9th, 1994 because of metal fatigue and the difficulty in performing the needed repairs. Artist: Bjorn Aronson Important Added Info: Note that that special posters like these were created in the 1950s (they were created on heavy board backings, so they could be displayed and withstand the elements) and displayed at Disneyland. As newer versions were created, the original posters were given away or sold, and they occasionally show up in auctions. This is not only the first time we have auctioned this Skyway Tomorrowland poster, but it is also the first time we have auctioned any of these Disneyland special posters! The rare times we have seen them in auctions (mostly many years ago), the best ones auctioned for many thousands of dollars! Condition: very good. The poster is silkscreen and it had a 12" crease or tear at the top center and an 8" tear 4" to the right of that (neither area had paper loss). It also had some creases and scuffs scattered throughout, with slight scuffing in the beginning of the tagline at the top (see our image). Someone had the poster paperbacked onto a new heavy paper backing, which greatly diminished how noticeable the creases and scuffs were, but they did not do paint restoration. You can see slight signs of the restoration when you get very close to the poster, but from any reasonable viewing distance, it displays fantastically (and it will display wonderfully on the new owner's wall, and we hope that is in a public place where lots of people can enjoy it!).
