Jimmy the Gent, the 1934 Michael Curtiz romantic comedy ("You can't mix gilt-edged bonds with jilt-edged blondes"; about con man who runs a business tracing missing heirs of fortunes; his girlfriend leaves him because she doesn't approve of how he does business, but then she goes to work in a "legitimate" business of the same type, and the con man discovers that business is even shadier than his!) starring James Cagney (in the title role as Jimmy Corrigan), Bette Davis, Alice White, Allen Jenkins, Alan Dinehart, Arthur Hohl, and Mayo Methot. Note that this was the first pairing of James Cagney and Bette Davis, and despite their clearly having chemistry, they did not work together again for many years, in the classic "The Bride Came C.O.D.". Perhaps their egos couldn't stand having someone co-starring who was just as sensational an actor and as charismatic as they were! Also note that this movie was made when Cagney was trying to get Warner Bros. to stop casting him in the same type of movies over and over, and supposedly he had his head practically shaved in this movie as a protest!
