Note that Our Gang fans are familiar with Billie Thomas playing Buckwheat, but actually, the character of Buckwheat was first played by Carlena Beard (Stymie's sister), in two early shorts, in 1932 and 1934. Then the character was played by another girl, Willie Mae Taylor, starting in this movie, and continuing for two more. In "Mama's Little Pirate", Billie Thomas took over the role of Buckwheat, having previously appeared in just two Our Gang shorts, this one, where he was billed as "kid emptying canteens" and in the earlier "For Pete's Sake", where he was billed as "kid"! Important Added Info: Note that between 1948 and 1952, Monogram Studios re-released a huge number of the original 1930s "Our Gang" comedy shorts to theaters. They printed a single set of four lobby cards for each year they did re-releases, and they would print many sets where each card had a blank area at top or center, and then they would overprint titles of many different specific shorts in that blank area. Interestingly, each of the four cards in each set looks like a "title card", so it is as if each set has four title cards! In addition, it is interesting to note that each of the four cards showed most of the main stars of the original shorts, even though some of those stars likely did not appear in the exact short whose title appeared at the top of the card (to alert people to this, Monogram added a tagline at the bottom right of each card that says: "All of the Little Rascals do not appear in each photoplay of the Little Rascals series"). Finally, note that in the 1920s and 1930s, this group of comedy kids were first and foremost known as the "Our Gang" kids, but they were occasionally referred to as "Hal Roach's Rascals". For these re-releases, Monogram renamed them "The Little Rascals", and that name was carried over to TV re-runs in the 1950s and 1960s, and they are far better known by that name today. Note that the lobby cards offered here are from the 1951 re-release set of four cards. Condition: very good. Learn More about condition grades
