An Original Vintage Theatrical Autographed Deluxe 10 3/4" x 13 1/2" [27 x 34 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Carole Lombard was an actress from the 1920s to the 1940s. In her early movies, she mostly had minor supporting roles in comedies, and she was billed as "Carol", but she added the "e" as she became a major star. One of her greatest successes was Twentieth Century, where she played a girl who has never acted, who becomes a great star under the tutelage of Svengali-like John Barrymore. Some of her other movies include: To Be or Not To Be, My Man Godfrey (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Mr. and Mrs. Smith. In the early 1930s, she married William Powell, but they amicably divorced, and several years later, she had a torrid love affair with Clark Gable, and they later married. Lombard died tragically in a 1942 plane crash when she was at the height of her career. She was just 33 years old. Important Added Info: Note that this still (which is by photographer Wm. E. Thomas and has his stamp on the back, and also an embossed name in the lower left corner of the front) has been personally autographed (signed) by Carole Lombard, with a personalized inscription! This is one of eleven great signed photos that come from the collection of William D. Hosking, a major autograph collector. Each of these eleven photos (which are in eleven separate auctions) have a stamp on the back that reads "FROM THE COLLECTION OF WILLIAM D. HOSKING". Also note that this still measures 10 3/4" x 13 1/2" [27 x 34 cm], but it has not been trimmed. Finally, note that this is a deluxe still printed on double weight paper stock. Condition: good. There are pinholes and wear in three corners, and in the top left corner, there is paper loss at a diagonal with surface paper loss next to it and a crease at the top of it (but only the blank background is affected). There are a few faint creases and scuffs scattered in the still and some tiny dot stains in the far left of her veil and hair. There are scuffs in the emulsion on her left cheek that just touch her nose, but they really can't be seen unless the still is tilted to the light. I think most people would be happy to display this great signed still as it is, or certainly, it could have expert restoration performed. Learn More about condition grades
