An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Swedish Stolpe (referred to by some as a "Swedish insert") Movie Poster (measures 12 1/4" x 25 3/4" [31 x 65 cm]) (Learn More) Der Blaue Engel (simultaneously released in the U.S. as "The Blue Angel", there were English language and German language versions), the classic 1930 Josef von Sternberg German tragic romantic musical melodrama (about a well respected college professor who falls for a night club singer, and she is thrilled to have such an illustrious suitor, but he throws his career away to marry her, with disastrous consequences; from the novel by Heinrich Mann) starring Emil Jannings (as Professor Immanuel Rath), Marlene Dietrich (as Lola Lola), Kurt Gerron, Rosa Valetti, Hans Albers, and Reinhold Bernt. Note that we do not know if there are any differences in the cast between the German language and the English language version (we know that most of the actors were German, but that they performed the English language version themselves in heavily accented English). If anyone knows of any differences between the two versions of this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Gunnar Hakansson Important Added Info: Note that this poster (like many other Swedish stolpes) was overprinted in the bottom play dates area, with the information for a specific theater (just like U.S. window cards). The information that is overprinted gives a day of the week and date, which tells us this stolpe was used in 1934, four years after the movie had opened in Sweden. But we think it is likely that the poster itself dates from 1930, and that it was simply overprinted four years later, because of how Dietrich is not really pictured, and we think that had the poster been made in 1934, they would have had an image of her then very recognizable face (and she was not very recognizable in 1930). The Note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: very good. The poster has a few small tears in the top and bottom borders, and a few extra creases scattered in the poster (see our image). Learn More about condition grades
