Die Buchse der Pandora (Lulu); (released in the U.S. as "Pandora's Box"), the classic 1929 G.W. Pabst (Georg Wilhelm Pabst) German silent tragic romantic melodrama (a story about an innocent yet hedonistic dancer and prostitute who dooms every man who encounters her; the movie that launched Louise Brooks into international stardom) starring Louise Brooks, Fritz Kortner, Francis Lederer, Carl Goetz, and Krafft-Raschig. Note that silent star Louise Brooks turned her back on Hollywood in 1929, and went to Europe and made some memorable films, most notably this film. In the early 1930s she attempted to return to Hollywood (minus her trademark flapper hairdo), but met with little success. She resurfaced in the 1960s and wrote books and articles about her life, and acquired a huge cult following.
