An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Pointed Heels, the 1929 A. Edward Sutherland New York City Manhattan show business romantic love triangle musical comedy ("A Paramount all talking picture"; "By Charles Brackett"; about a chorus girl who is in love with a would-be composer, and there is a suave producer who is in love with her as well) starring William Powell, Helen Kane (billed as "Helen 'Sugar' Kane [the Boop-Bopa-Doop girl]"), Fay Wray, Richard 'Skeets' Gallagher, Phillips Holmes, Adrienne Dore, Eugene Pallette, and the Albertina Rasch ballet group (who perform a ballet number with Fay Wray). Note that Phillips Holmes had made an impression in some movies in the late 1920s. In 1931, he would get the lead in the first version of "An American Tragedy", which made it seem like he would become a major star, but that didn't materialize. He had a major affair with Libby Holman, but that was certainly complicated, and when they broke up, she immediately married his brother! Oddly, years later, Holman would have another very complicated affair with Montgomery Clift, who played the same part in the remake of "An American Tragedy", retitled "A Place in the Sun". Sadly, Holmes died in a plane crash in 1942. I am very surprised no one has made a movie about his life, or a joint movie about him and Libby Holman! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this one-sheet, and that example has now been reconsigned to us, so this is still the only example we have ever auctioned! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good.
