Metzger is a franchise holder in Associated First National Pictures Inc and has the exclusive right to present First National Attractions in this world zone"; "Know all men by these presents - that the management of this theatre is morally and financially bonded to fulfil [sic] the requirements of our organization for the betterment of screen entertainment; to maintain the freedom of the screen from political, religious or financial domination & to foster, support and encourage independent artist-stars, directors and producers who are individually producing their own photoplays and are personally responsible to the public for the quality of entertainment provided by them.") presented to the Cosy Theatre in Tyndall, South Dakota, which was operated by R.C. Metzger, to certify that it was allowed to show First National Pictures. Note that this item features cool blue border art by Joe Sinel. If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Artist: Joe Sinel Important Added Info: Note that in the 1910s movie theaters would sign deals with specific studios to distribute their product. There was a problem with copied films being illegally shown by theaters that had not signed such deals, so studios created certificates that the theater would display in their lobby that showed that they were certified to show that studio's movies! This certificate, which is from 1919 and for First National Pictures (and which has an actual gold seal attached to the poster over two real pieces of red ribbon), is the first such certificate we have ever offered! Condition: fair to good. There are creases and staining in the upper left, which has discolored the paper in that area. There are stains in the left and bottom borders, extending into the black border only in the lower right corner (see our image). Learn More about condition grades
