Date Sold 8/29/2024Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Unfolded One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Scandal Sheet, the 1931 John Cromwell romantic love triangle newspaper yellow journalism crime murder thriller ("Editor's wife caught in Love Nest Raid"; a truly wild story of the publisher of a newspaper who is "married" to his work, but he is also married to beautiful Kay Francis, who he adores, but he also ignores, and that leads her into the arms of suave banker Clive Brook, and when Bancroft, who works so hard he is oblivious to it, learns of her infidelity, he shoots Brook and then returns to his office and writes the story for his newspaper before turning himself in; the movie SHOULD have ended there, but apparently the studio demanded a "happy" ending, and they added a wacky final section where Bancroft is in prison for life, but happily running the prison newspaper!) starring George Bancroft, Clive Brook, Kay Francis, Regis Toomey, Lucien Littlefield, and Gilbert Emery. Note that people who have seen this movie say that it is well made and very enjoyable and that Kay Francis delivers a great (and sexy) pre-Code performance, and that it definitely should be seen! Important Added Info: Note that we have only once before auctioned this poster (and now that very same poster has been reconsigned to us for this auction, so it is still the only example we have ever auctioned). Other than this poster we have not auctioned any other heavyweight special Paramount one-sheet from this period like those described below. They really are that rare! It has no blank borders, but it has NOT been trimmed. This is one of two unusual experiments Paramount did with one-sheets from part of 1928 through part of 1931. They printed their regular one-sheets with a "full bleed", meaning the solid borders ran all the way to the edge of the poster, and the small writing at the bottom is within the color area, because there is no white area beneath it. They also made some special one-sheets like the one offered here, which are basically like giant half-sheets (printed on the same thick material), but they measure exactly 27" x 41" and also have no blank borders. Both of these printing methods were abandoned after a short time (probably because printers at the time had difficulty printing with a full bleed). It would not be until around 1990 that printers would again print movie posters with a full bleed! Condition: good to very good. As noted above, the poster is printed on "half-sheet-like" paper stock, but it can be rolled. It was never folded, but it has some partial horizontal creases in the left and right. It has a 9" tear in the right of the bottom border that was repaired with tape from the back, and there are also small pieces of tape on the back of some other tears (see our image).
