An Original Vintage Magazine (measures 8 1/2" x 10 3/4" [22 x 27 cm]) (Learn More)

Castle of Frankenstein, the American horror, science fiction (sci-fi) and fantasy film magazine ("The Magazine of Fantasy & Imagination") which was published in New Jersey by Calvin Thomas Beck from 1962 to 1975. It was a "re-start" of an earlier magazine from 1959 called "Journal of Frankenstein" that only lasted one issue. Larry Ivie (who also was cover artist for several early issues) and Ken Beale edited the first three issues, and writer-artist Bhob Stewart (a legendary early EC Comics/E.C. Comics fan, and his first name is really "Bhob") edited the magazine from 1963 into the early 1970s. The magazine ran 25 issues, plus one annual. During its primary run, Castle of Frankenstein outlasted the majority of monster magazines that filled the market for two decades, with the notable exception of Famous Monsters of Filmland. Castle of Frankenstein had much serious film analysis, and it also included coverage of obscure movies, especially foreign movies, and it even covered then current science fiction and horror books and comics.
Artist: Larry Ivie
Important Added Info: Note that we have provided a picture of the front cover of the magazine, and pictures of interior two-page spreads (including the table of contents page if there is one; but we didn't make much effort to find the best ones!). These images should greatly help you judge the overall condition of the magazine, and the contents page lets you know exactly what articles and stories are contained in this particular issue. Please know that these magazines are sealed in bags and are ready for shipping, and we cannot answer any questions about them or look through them for you, so please bid (or do not bid) based on the images we have provided.

Condition: fair to good. The covers are detached at the spine. The magazine was stored lightly folded over, so there is a significant "wave" down the center, but it is not creased. It can be greatly reduced by placing this magazine under weight over time, but bear that in mind before bidding.

Note that we have attempted to check to see if the magazine is complete and uncut, and we believe that it is. However, there is a slight possibility that we might have missed a small cut or a page that was neatly removed, and if that happens, you can return the magazine. We have solely provided an overall description of the condition of the magazine, but you can also refer to our super-sized images. Please bid (or not bid) based on that overall grade and by viewing the super-sized images.
