An Original Vintage Canadian 6 3/4" x 8 1/2" [17 x 22 cm] Television Still (Learn More) Groucho Marx (born Julius Henry Marx) was a legendary comedian/actor from the 1920s to the 1960s. He and his three brothers started on the stage (Groucho, Gummo, Harpo, and Chico). Youngest brother Zeppo joined, so for a brief time there were five Marx Brothers, but Gummo soon left the act to join the army. The remaining four performed on stage and signed with Paramount Pictures and made a number of memorable movies there. Zeppo then left the act, and the remaining three signed with MGM, where they had two of their best remembered movies: A Night at the Opera and A Day at the Races. In the 1950s, the brothers separated, and Groucho had a very memorable TV game show called "You Bet Your Life". In his later years, he was a frequent guest on TV talk shows. Groucho passed away in 1977 at the age of 86. To learn much more about him, read the fine biography "Raised Eyebrows" by Steve Stoliar (available as an audio book narrated by Mr. Stoliar, who was Groucho's secretary and lived with him for a number of years). Important Added Info: Note that in 1966, Groucho Marx made an appearance on the Canadian quiz show "Front Page Challenge". This show was a long-running Canadian show about current events and history. There was a panel of journalists who questioned a guest (sometimes a celebrity "mystery guest"), trying to determine what news story he was linked to, and each of them asked him questions (after they first showed news footage to the studio audience). Once the connection was determined, the journalist then asked the guest about themselves. Obviously, this show had great similarities to the U.S.'s "What's My Line?". The show ran from 1957 to 1996. We can't find that anyone has previously auctioned or offered for sale a still of Groucho from this program, so this might be the only existing example! Note that this is a "country of origin" still for this Canadian TV show! Also note that this Canadian TV still measures 6 3/4" x 8 1/2" [17 x 22 cm]. Condition: very good to fine. The still is in very nice condition! Learn More about condition grades
