eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 6j269 SCARLET DOVE Argentinean '28 completely different art of Sherman and Livingston! Date Sold 5/2/2017Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Argentinean Movie Poster (measures 14 1/4" x 29" [36 x 74 cm]) (Learn More) The Scarlet Dove, the 1928 Arthur Gregor silent Russia marriage romantic love triangle melodrama (a wild story of a girl raised in a convent, and it is discovered she is the heiress to a fortune, and her aunt sets up a marriage with a nobleman, but she falls in love with a dashing young officer, and the two men fight to the death over her) starring Lowell Sherman, Margaret Livingston (best remembered for her role as the "bad" city woman in "Sunrise"), Robert Frazer, Josephine Borio, Shirley Palmer, Julia Wayne Gordon, and Carlos Durand. Note that Josephine Borio played the lead female role, but she was fourth billed, surely because this was her first major role. She only had a total of nine movie appearances, most of them pretty minor, in 1927 and 1928, and she passed away in 1940, and we could find virtually no information about her, especially why her career was so short, or why she died so young. If anyone knows more about her, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is one of a remarkable find of 143 Argentinean posters from 1926 to 1929 that were recently discovered! They all measure approximately 14 1/4" x 28 1/4", which was one of the two main sizes created for Argentinean movie posters at that time (the other was a poster that measured 29" x 43"). It is likely that prior to this amazing find, there were only a small number of these posters known to exist in the entire world, and after these 143 are auctioned, it is unlikely that there will be many more discovered, even over the coming decades! This is a rare opportunity to purchase an Argentinean poster from the late 1920s, a time when virtually no movie posters from any country are known to exist! Note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: good to very good. There are a few minor patches of slight discoloration scattered in various areas (more so along the foldlines), typical of Argentinean posters of this time period. Learn More about condition grades
