the 1960s Argentinean triple-bill of Glen or Glenda (also released as "I Led 2 Lives"), the 1953 Edward D. Wood Jr. transvestite melodrama ("Based on the lives of Christine Jorgensen"; originally supposed to be about a man who has a sex-change operation, Ed Wood twisted it into a semi-biography of himself, thus changing the story into one about a transvestite, and not a sex change, and to add insult to injury, when the movie was released as "I Led 2 Lives", they still used the tagline "Based on the Lives of Christine Jorgensen", even though it in no way was!) starring Edward D. Wood Jr. (as Daniel Davis), Bela Lugosi, Dolores Fuller, Lyle Talbot, and Timothy Farrell. Note that Timothy Farrell is completely forgotten today, but he had a fascinating life. He worked for 26 years for the Los Angeles County Marshal's Office, and was a movie actor at the same time! He mostly worked on low budget movies, including several for Ed Wood, although he did play a bailiff in the 1954 "A Star is Born", which was the ultimate typecasting, because he himself had been a bailiff, but he eventually rose to be the County Marshal. But in 1975, he was convicted of a felony (using deputies for political activities), and he was fired. He lived for another 14 years before dying of a heart attack. His life should be made into a movie, no doubt with Johnny Depp in the starring role! AND Mom and Dad (released in other English-speaking countries as "Secrets of Life"), the 1945 William Beaudine high school premarital sex romantic melodrama ("Who's that fellow dancing with 'my' girl?"; "It happens here, there -- Somewhere Every Night!"; "With an all-star Hollywood cast"; "Two Complete Shows Nightly, First Show at Dusk"; "NOTE... No one under 16 years of age can be admitted to this Hygiene Shocker unless with Parents! When you see it... You'll understand."; "The camera doesn't lie, This show will open your eyes!"; "It pulls no-punches, bold, vital, shocking"; "Once... in a lifetime... Comes a Presentation that Truly pulls no punches!"; "Now you can see the motion picture that dares discuss and explain sex as never before seen and heard!"; "The one, the only, the original..."; "Truly the world's most amazing attraction!"; "Extra-in person Elliot Forbes 'The secrets of sensible sex'"; "No one under high school age Admitted Unless accompanied by Parents!!"; "Everything Shown! Everything Explained!") starring June Carlson, Lois Austin, George Eldrege, Jimmy Clark, and Elliot Forbes (billed as "On the stage Elliot Forbes, the fearless hygiene commentator"). Note that this was a rather conventional melodrama of the 1940s, with a teen girl getting pregnant on her first date, and her boyfriend is killed, and her parents forgive her and help her resolve her situation. But the master showman, Kroger Babb, turned this into a major roadshow attraction, touring the country with the movie, and holding separate showings for teen boys and teen girls, with "no one under 16" admitted, and he had a famous "hygiene commentator" appear on stage to tell the teens "the birds and the bees" after the showing of the movie! It seemed a lot racier than it was in the innocent 1940s, and he was helped by the Legion of Decency, which banned the movie, thus making teens want to see it even more. He toured the movie around the country for a good ten years, at which point his protege David Friedman took over the movie, exhibiting it for another decade or so! AND Anders als Du und Ich (released in the U.S. in 1959 as "The Third Sex"), the 1957 Veit Harlan German gay homosexual romantic melodrama (about a gay teenage boy in post-war Berlin and his "coming out", and his family's attempt to "straighten him out"; "If a boy is different...can he learn to love a woman?"; "Never has the screen exposed a relationship like this!"; "I am the woman indicted for impairing the morals of my son!"; "I am the girl the mother chose to help him be like others!"; "One night in the garden this boy became the man I loved!") starring Paula Wessely, Christian Wolff, Ingrid Stenn (billed as "Introducing the sensational Ingrid Stenn"), Guenther Theil, and Paul Dahlke. Note that director Veit Harlan was one of the most infamous of the Nazi film directors, directing Jud Suss and many other virulent anti-Jewish Nazi movies during World War II. After the war, almost ALL of his movies were banned, not just the anti-Jewish ones, and he was put on trial for war crimes. But in 1950, after several trials, he was set free, and in 1951, he resumed making movies, making a dozen of them until his passing in 1964.
