An Original 1961 (from the first release of this movie in Poland) Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Polish Movie Poster (23x33; measures 23" x 33 1/2" [58 x 85 cm]) (Learn More) Yoidore Tenshi (released in English-speaking countries as "Drunken Angel"), the 1948 Akira Kurosawa Japanese alcoholism crime melodrama (about a young Yakuza gangster who is in charge of his gang while his boss is in prison, and he goes to an alcoholic doctor and asks him to treat a bullet in his hand, and the doctor does that, but he also tells the gangster he has tuberculosis, and advises him to stop drinking and smoking, which he does, and the two form a sort of friendship, but then the boss gangster gets out of prison and threatens the doctor, and the young gangster tries to intervene to help his newfound friend, but is himself killed) starring Takashi Shimura, Toshiro Mifune, Reisaburo Yamamoto, Michiyo Kogure and Chieko Nakakita. Note that this was one of Akira Kurosawa's first notable movies, and the second lead was played by Toshiro Mifune, who was in his fourth movie ever, and his first movie with Kurosawa. Of course, the two men would make "Rashomon" together two years later, and go on to stellar careers, making many classics together! This movie is little known, except by major film buffs, but those who have seen it say it ranks among Kurosawa's best, and it is one of his few movies set in the then present day (another is "High and Low"). Poster material from it is incredibly rare. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Wladyslaw Janiszewski Important Added Info: Note that first release 1961 movie paper from this Akira Kurosawa movie is incredibly rare. We have never auctioned even a single movie poster (only a U.S. still and a German program) from this movie until we received this Polish poster! What IS linenbacking?
