An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) A Sailor-Made Man, the 1921 Fred C. Newmeyer silent slapstick Navy romantic comedy (written and produced by Hal Roach; about a wealthy playboy whose girlfriend's father tells him he needs to get a "real job" if he wants to marry his daughter, and he impulsively joins the Navy!) starring Harold Lloyd, Mildred Davis (who, two years after this movie, would marry Lloyd, and they would stay married for 46 years until her passing), Noah Young, Dick Sutherland, William Gillespie, and Fred Guiol. Note that this film was intended to be a 2-reel short but audiences loved the 4-reel test screening so much that Lloyd and Roach decided not to edit it down to 2 reels, and it became Lloyd's first feature-length film. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have never auctioned ANY U.S. movie paper item from this movie until we received this wonderful half-sheet! Not only has it not been backed and not had any restoration, but it has an incredible image of Harold Lloyd in a sheik's harem, and he is in his sailor suit and apparently smoking opium from a water pipe with two beautiful women on either side of him! To give you a sense of just how rare Harold Lloyd half-sheets are from his silent movies, in all our years of auctioning, we have only auctioned a total of three half-sheets from his silents, and now we are auctioning this wonderful poster (plus another half-sheet from Lloyd's "Grandma's Boy", in a separate auction). Condition: very good to fine. The poster was never folded. It has creases and faint smudges around the edges. It is not at all fragile, which is really remarkable for a poster of this age and size!
