A Linenbacked French Advertising Poster (measures 45 3/4" x 62" [116 x 157 cm]) (Learn More) Nitrolian, the 1929 French advertising poster (with a tagline that translates to "Dry as soon as painted") promoting the purchase of a fast drying paint produced by De Keyn Freres, and featuring Leonetto Cappiello artwork of a woman descending steps at the same time that a man is painting them red. Artist: Leonetto Cappiello Important Added Info: Note that we previously auctioned this French poster just one time. The person who purchased it saw that we had not properly described the extent of the restoration (we thought that the top area had been painted over, but actually, it has been recreated), so they returned it, and we are now relisting it, but it is still the ONLY example of this poster we have ever auctioned. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. The top black section with the words at the top of the poster had been trimmed off and was missing. The rest of the poster (which was never folded) had many faint smudges and scuffs scattered throughout. They were, of course, most noticeable in the white areas. Overall, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to linenbacking (depending how you value the missing text section at the top). The restorer who backed this poster recreated the missing top section, but they backed the rest of it "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. One could display this wonderful poster as it is, or certainly, one might choose to have some additional restoration performed, but that will be the choice of the new owner. Obviously, one would prefer to find an example of this poster in better condition and without the top recreated, but it is a very rare poster and most examples are priced very high and often have many condition defects. But bear in mind all that is written above and look closely at our super-sized image before bidding on this poster. Learn More about condition grades
