An Original 1956 Vintage Theatrical Folded Autographed One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) La Donna del Fiume (released in the U.S. in 1956 as "Woman of the River"), the 1954 Mario Soldati Italian/French crime melodrama ("Sophia Loren is all woman in Woman of the River") starring Sophia Loren ("The anAtomic Bomb from Italy"), Gerard Oury, Lise Bourdin, Rik Battaglia, Giorgio Bassani, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Florestano Vancini, Antonio Altoviti, and Mario Soldati. Note that this is one of the many early movies that Sophia Loren appeared in in the early 1950s. After it was released in 1954, she did not gain widespread international notice until the following year, and it was not until 1956 that this was released in the U.S., as "Woman of the River". After she became a superstar in 1957 with "Boy on a Dolphin", the movie was released again in the U.S. So there are both 1956 and 1957 U.S. posters from this movie, and it had an entirely different ad campaign each time! Our consignor is a longtime dealer who acquired this signed item among many other purchases in his inventory, and he does not have a certificate of authenticity, but we believe the signature to likely be authentic. As noted above, this poster is from the first 1956 U.S. release of this 1954 Italian movie. It is full color, and in 1957, the movie was re-released in the U.S. with a two-color poster with an entirely different image. This 1956 poster is far more rare than the 1957 poster! As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction.
