He was a pilot during World War I (WWI) and a post-war record-breaking aviator who was a three-time winner of the Thompson Trophy air race. He was widely recognized by his flamboyant style and his pet Gilmore the Lion. Turner was an honorary official with the Indianapolis 500 car race for many years, and some of his movies include: Flight at Midnight, Air Hawks, and Hell's Angels. He passed away in 1970 at the age of 74. Important Added Info: Note that this item, which is a press pass from the 1934 Indianapolis 500, has been personally autographed (signed) by Roscoe Turner on the back! Note that the press pass was created on a die-cut heavy cardboard, and the owner of it displayed it around their neck with a ribbon that was tied to the top of the pass (only a portion of the ribbon still remains). Our consignor is a longtime collector who purchased this signed item from a reputable dealer. He does not have a certificate of authenticity, but we believe the signature to likely be authentic. As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction.
