Guthrie, Jr."; "Additional Dialogue by Jack Sher"; based on the equally fine novel by Jack Schaefer; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Alan Ladd (in the title role as Shane), Jean Arthur (as Marian Starrett), Van Heflin (as Joe Starrett), Brandon De Wilde (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film; as Joey), Jack Palance (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film; as Wilson), Emile Meyer (as Rufe Ryker), Ben Johnson (as Chris Calloway), Edgar Buchanan (as Fred Lewis), Elisha Cook Jr. (as Stonewall Torrey), Douglas Spencer (as Swede Shipstead), John Dierkes (as Morgan Ryker), Ellen Corby (as Mrs. Torrey), Paul McVey (as Sam Grafton), and Nancy Kulp (as Mrs. Howells). Note that we all know this movie is an incredible classic, but it didn't look it at the time! Originally, Montgomery Clift was to play Shane and William Holden as Joe Starrett (that would have been a very different movie!), but the cast was changed when both those actors took other roles. It was filmed in the middle of 1951 but the studio was not pleased with it, and it was not released until 1953, after a long time of editing the movie by George Stevens. It opened at Radio City Music Hall, and was a big success! Note that Alan Ladd was 40 when the movie was released, and Jean Arthur was over 50 (ten years older than grizzled Emile Meyer, who played Rufe Ryker), and the movie revitalized both their careers! We can't explain why this particular size poster is so much more rare than all the other posters from this movie, but it certainly is! Note that this window card was folded in half, and because it was folded perfectly in half, it can be sent in one of our standard size mailers. If it is purchased by itself (or solely with other posters that can be sent in standard size mailers), it will be sent that way. But if it is purchased with posters that need to be sent in oversized mailers, then we will of course send it that way. Condition: good to very good. Most of the blank top was trimmed off, and the poster was folded horizontally, near the bottom of the main image. It has a tape stain in each corner and darkening down the left. The words "COMING NEXT" were written in the top blank border in red paint, and it very slightly extends into the orange background area. The window card has had no restoration.
