An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)

Big Timber (released in the U.S. as "The Stranger of the North", and perhaps as "Clansman of the North"), the 1924 John W. Noble Canadian silent lumberjack logging romantic melodrama starring Richard C. Travers, Ruth Dwyer, Pat Hartigan, Charles E. Graham (billed as "Chas Graham"), and DeSacia Moorers. Note that movies set in the Pacific Northwest or in Canada were very popular in the 1910s and 1920s, likely because they often took place in lumberjack camps, which were a natural setting for melodrama (and big sweaty men). This is one of the few movies we have seen from that time period that was actually made in Canada (the company that made it, Maritime Studios, filmed most of their productions in Canada, and they hired local men as lumberjack extras provided that they supplied their own axes). Also, it appears that this film completed production in 1921 or 1922, but legal problems delayed the release until 1924 (the same year as the Universal Studios film with the same name and similar plot). Finally, note that we have seen a title lobby card for this movie that was printed with the title "Clansman of the North", and then it was then overprinted with "The Stranger of the North". This may have been a working title, but we don't know for sure. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had small paper loss at the crossfolds and minor wear on the foldlines. It had pinholes and tears around the edges. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Note that the restorer who mounted the poster did not leave any excess linen around the edges of the poster.
